Keeping sane in the UK lockdown

How to keep sane in lock-down

It’s been exactly 1 week into the UK lock-down due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and from News Reports it looks like this lock-down could continue until June – so I thought I’d post a Blog on how I am keeping myself Mentally and Physically Healthy so that I don’t go insane!

I see a lot of people posting on Social Media about how this lock-down is driving them mad and that they are really bored, this is understandable as we aren’t used to this situation at all but I think this is a great time to do the things that you usually wouldn’t be able to in your normal every day life.

The first thing I do to keep myself Mentally and Physically healthy is working out 5/6 times a week, doing this with or without weights is personal preference and what is available at home. For me I absolutely love to workout first thing in the morning, I wake up at 6am and get a 1h 10m workout in before I’ve had breakfast – this still gives me some time to relax and enjoy my favourite meal of the day before starting any work. This really sets me up for the day, makes me feel really positive, energetic and productive – just what you need when you are in lockdown!

The second thing I have started to do in lock-down is tackle those tedious tasks that you can never be bothered to do when life is normal! For me these tasks are emptying your cupboards of stuff that you are never ever going to use or wear and getting through that food in the freezer that has been there for ages, this is a perfect time to be doing this and you will reap the benefits afterwards. I have just cleared out two huge bags of clothes and items, these will go to charity shops for others to use which makes me feel great and also helps the mind feel de-cluttered. When it comes to using Freezer food this is a great time to improvise with ingredients and get into your cooking, we have cooked some delicious meals by doing this and it makes us feel good that we are using our food up!

Keeping yourself productive

Healthy eating is something that my family have always done, which I am really grateful for – but this is a time to make sure that this continues as you don’t want to go into a slump and eat junk food to make yourself feel better. I know it’s been hard to buy certain items from Supermarkets but there is always ways round this, we have been using our daily exercises to go down to a local corner shop to get our essentials (Pasta, Eggs, bread) – this is helping the locals and we have also reduced our exposure to the public by not going to large supermarkets.

This was just a short and snappy blog but I thought I would post this to help motivate anyone who might be struggling through this time. This is a perfect time to be working on yourself, do things that you usually wouldn’t be able to and to help organise yourself for whatever you’d like to do in the future!

See you on the next blog, I will be talking a little about how and why I started Hypen.
